Jaguar inspires a celebration of the very best of international design.

A COLLABORATION TO CELEBRATE CONTEMPORARY DESIGN

In 2014, Jaguar collaborated with Wallpaper*, the world’s most influential design and style magazine, to stage the first Wallpaper* Handmade exhibition to be held outside Milan. Over 50 pieces were exhibited in the windows of Harrods in London.

JAGUAR DESIGN IN UNEXPECTED FORMS

To celebrate our involvement in the event, we exhibited five new concept products, which explored Jaguar's design language. They ranged from a pet transporter to a lighting installation and were designed by Moritz Waldemeyer, Neri & Hu, Mathieu Gustafsson, Fredrikson Stallard and Salvatori & Jaguar Advanced Design.

Table 7 encapsulates many of the design values of Jaguar, beauty of line and purity of form all the while not forgetting its purpose and function. Working with natural stone producer and designer Gabriele Salvatori, the Jaguar Advanced Design team designed this coffee table from a single block of marble. A challenging design, thought at first almost impossible, its elegant lines give a notion of speed and agility. Table 7 pushes the boundaries of furniture design. In the same way Jaguar creates exhilarating cars.

THE INSIDE TRACK

"We set out to create a piece that is not only true to Jaguar’s design values - beauty of line and
purity of form - but also something that had a purpose and a function.

Using marble in a way that challenges the traditional view of the material, we have designed and produced, in collaboration with Salvatori, a beautiful coffee table. Made from a single piece of marble, the form visually expresses speed and lightness, taper and shape all in one dynamic flowing surface.

Our collaborators; Salvatori, are innovative producers of natural stone products, based close to the home of Carrera marble in Versilia, Italy. We worked very closely with them to use their invaluable experience and knowledge of the material.

Starting from a hand sketch the concept was translated into 3D by computer modelling. This then directed the automated cutting of the marble, shaping it into its rough proportions. The marble was then beautifully crafted by hand and finished to create refined pure surfaces that are unique only to this piece.

To complement the form we have added a subtle pattern into the surface of the table. The lozenge shape has been taken from the Jaguar Heritage logo – a pattern synonymous to the brand, which we felt added interest to the piece, especially when it interacts with the light.

By combining the most modern design and manufacturing techniques with traditional hand sculpting we have produced a piece much in the same approach as we would develop Jaguar cars today."
